Are you looking for where to eat in Ruka-Kuusamo this Christmas? Wild Out’s Special Christmas Menu in Kuusamo is available from 15th of November to 30th of December 2026. The inspiration for our Christmas Special menu comes from the traditions our grandmothers shared with us. Since Tessa is from Finland, and I am from Poland, two traditions meet at our Christmas table.
A fusion of traditions
For me Christmas was always a special time. Of course I wrote a letter to Santa Claus like every kid, but what I remember the most was the time I spent with my grandma in the kitchen. We prepared dumplings, fish and tasty cakes. With mom we decorated the Christmas tree and of course cleaned our home. And then came the moment when the whole family gathered and enjoyed the table full of food. This is the atmosphere which gives me a feeling of warmth and safety.
When I moved to Finland nine years ago, Tessa invited me to her family home, and I saw the same beautiful picture. The only difference was that, instead of fish, there was a big piece of joulukinkku (Finnish Christmas ham) on the table. Which, by the way, was amazing!
Nowadays, in our own home, we prepare Christmas food and invite family and friends to gather around our table.
Christmas Menu in Kuusamo that respects the ingredients
The ingredients we use are quite similar in both countries, partly because of the season, but the ways we prepare them are different. Both Finnish and Polish Christmas tables feature potatoes, beetroot, carrots, fish, and aromatic warm spices like cinnamon or clover. So combining these two traditions make our table richer, more diverse, and full of surprises from both Polish and Finnish traditions.
We want to respect these traditions and cherish the ingredients.
