Slow Travel Finland: Connect with Nature, Culture, and Yourself

18.7.2025   |   Theresa

Slow Travel Finland perfectly describes how I hope to see travelers enjoy Finland — by experiencing the benefits of the slow lifestyle we Finns live by.

Like many people today, I used to live in a busy city. The pace of everyday life and the constant feeling of being in a hurry made me feel like I was always behind or missing out. Maybe you can relate?

Whenever I felt overwhelmed, I would walk into nature — breathe in the fresh air, and simply look around. Being surrounded by trees, crisp air, and silence slowly became a kind of medicine. It reminded me of what Finland is truly about.

Let Go of the Bucket List

Finland is a popular destination for travelers from all over the world. There are many exotic things to experience here, but running around with a long bucket list doesn’t help you come closer to the secret of Finnish happiness. I want to encourage travelers to slow down and truly connect — with the country, the culture, and themselves.

Why Slow Travel Finland?

Slow Travel Finland allows you to experience the destination more deeply, understand the culture and – if you’re open to it – even become a part of it. Having a chance to interact with nature is what keeps many Finnish people calm and content. We want to share this with you.

At Wild Out, this is how we define slow travel:

Choose Slow-Paced Activities

Look for companies that offer full-day trips. This gives you time to truly immerse yourself in the experience — without rushing from one thing to the next.

Choose Quality Over Quantity

Smaller groups offer calmer, more personal experiences. With fewer guests, guides can offer more thoughtful service and attention to detail with a personal touch.

Take Days Off

There is a word in Finnish for enjoying doing nothing — “joutilaisuus”.

If possible, try to avoid overstimulating yourself on your holidays. Slow Travel Finland is also about giving yourself time to reflect on the things you’ve chosen to experience. We need time to sit with ourselves and catch up, and Finland is the perfect place to practice this — and perhaps bring that mindset home with you.

 Travel by Land

Choosing the train or bus over flying not only reduces your environmental impact — it’s a more carefree way of traveling and allows us to see more of the country we visit. It’s also slower-paced, helping us fully internalize that we’re on holiday. You get to feel the distance and appreciate the time you have. This is what Slow Travel Finland is all about.

Choose activities rooted in Finnish culture

If you’re a traveler looking to explore Finland more deeply, you’re in good hands. At Wild Out, we offer immersive, all-inclusive day trips where the main goal is simple: to reconnect with nature and yourself, the way we do here in Finland.

By joining our sustainable day trips, you can experience activities rooted in Finnish culture: cooking over an open fire, taking part in positive actions for nature, and exploring the outdoors in traditional Finnish ways – at a slow pace.

Are you ready to slow down — and experience more?
